Outdoor Jobs - if you don't have experience.
There are plenty of jobs you can do outdoors, even if you have never
done any work like this before. Here are some examples.
Fruit Thinner: Usually done during November and December. In
this job, you take some of the young, unwanted fruit from the trees by
hand to allow the remaining fruit to grow to full size. You will normally
get paid according to the number of trees you thin per day or per
week.
Fruit Picker: This job involves picking fruit off
trees into a bucket strapped to your shoulders, which you then empty into
fruit bins. You usually get paid by the amount of bins you fill with fruit
that meet certain size, colour, maturity, and quality standards. You have
to be reasonably fit, happy to work on a ladder and be able to see
well.
Fruit tree pruner: A skilled job that you'll have to train for
if you haven't done it before. Tree branches are pruned by use of
secateurs, loppers, or electronic pruners. you'll probably also work with
ladders and elevated work platforms.
General Vineyard Work: General maintenance work (Wire tucking,
debudding etc)
Outdoor Jobs if
you have previous experience or skills.
If you have driven or operated machinery before, or have worked in
other orchards, you may be able to take on some higher paid, skilled work
such as these roles below.
Machinery Operators/Drivers: Roles for Tractor Drivers,Hydralada
Operators (elevated platforms), Forklift Operator, Truck Driver (HT
Licence)
Quality Controllers: Crop Monitor (pre-harvest) Quality
